
The funeral details of Pte Donald Rose 110yr old WW2 oldest veteran - the oldest man in the UK and fifth oldest WW2 veteran in the World - have been announced and officials are asking for support from the public and the Armed Forces community to help give him a dignified and fitting send off.
Due to his popularity in Erewash, and beyond, on Friday 8th August, a cortege will be driven through parts of Ilkeston Town Centre to allow residents to line the streets and say goodbye.
The route will cover the following areas and points along the way:
- 11:45am: Morrisons Supermarket, 107 Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, DE7 5NN (Bikers are requested to muster at 11:30am to escort his journey.)
- 12:00noon: A service will be held at Ilkeston Football Ground, Awsworth Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8JF with a bikers escort from Morrisons.
- 12:45pm: A procession will leave to meet a parade at the bottom of Bath Street. Anyone wishing to walk or march up Bath Street are very welcome to join the parade at any stage.
- 1:00pm: Standards are to join the parade outside the old Argos store on Bath Street. Military personnel, veterans and members of the public should line up by the Cenotaph in Ilkeston Market Place in order to salute Donald as he passes by on his final journey. Berets and medals should be worn by those who have them.
