As one of the borough's biggest annual events came to Ilkeston over the weekend, the town centre was the subject of a dispersal notice in the wake of anti-social behaviour issues.
A Section 34 notice was in effect from 4:00pm on Saturday 9th August until 7:00pm on Sunday 10th August. This was just a few short hours after the culmination of the Annual Heritage and Classic Vehicle Show which saw hundreds of people and vehicles descend on the town centre.
The dispersal order allowed Police officers to move people from a specific area defined with red markings on a previously issued map, and, with anyone considered to be under 16 and involved in instances of anti-social behaviour to be taken back to their home address.
It is not known if any action was needed during the period of the placement of the order, but anyone who refuses to leave the area under such circumstances is committing an offence which, if convicted, can lead to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or three months in prison.
A dispersal order can only be put in place for a maximum of 48 hours but at the point of expiry, officers will carry out an assessment and a further period of up to 48 hours may be granted.
Derbyshire Police said that officers remain aware of how anti-social behaviour can impact on the local community and hoped that, with any dispersal order in place, they can tackle any issues robustly.
