Intrepid fundraising cyclists ride from Ilkeston to London

A group of cyclist have completed a ride from the borough to the capital to raise money for charity.

The 20 strong group set off from Ilkeston Market Place heading for Central London on Saturday 25th June in aid of two local charities who work to support local families.

• The Ben Parker Trust Fund, known for their fantastic work as ‘Bens Den’ offers the families of children who are fighting cancer or leukaemia the chance to heal, recuperate and create happy memories in a safe comfortable place (Link to JustGiving page – click here to donate) and;
• The Little Ted Foundation, set up recently by a local family following the sad loss of their baby boy Ted, to cancer in April this year, he was just 16 months old. They aim to provide getaways for families with seriously ill children, and bereaved families following the loss of a child. (Link to GoFundMe page – click here to donate)

The ride covered non-motorway roads, totalling over 150 miles with approx 7,000 feet of climbing, and was with the aim to finish outside the gates of Buckingham Palace. The ride was the furthest that most of the riders have ever ridden, and was challenging to navigate with options to use the M1 not available for cyclists.  The day was very testing, both physically and mentally, but all riders said that it was worth it for two great charities.
