A joint investigation is continuing between Derbyshire Police and the county Fire and Rescue Service following a fire at a property in West Hallam, in which a man in his 40s died.

A crew from Ilkeston attended the scene on Hampton Close at around 5:20am on Monday morning 7th August, joined by those from outlying stations in Heanor, Nottingham Road and Ascot Drive in Derby.

On arrival, firefighters were met by a well-developed fire in a first floor bedroom of the detached property.  One female in her 70s had managed to escape but the man was declared dead at the scene.

A joint police and fire investigation into the cause of the fire began later on Monday and work continues to determine the cause of the blaze.
