Liberal Democrat members from within the constituency of Mid-Derbyshire have selected Barry Holliday to fight the next general election campaign.

The seat is currently held by retiring Conservative MP Pauline Latham, covering the west and south west of the Erewash Borough.

Barry said: "It's a great honour and privilege to be selected by local members to be their candidate and voice in the next General Election."

He claimed that Mid Derbyshire deserves better, describing the Conservatives as "disastrous" and criticising comments alleged to have been made which, he said were "encouraging people to ‘stop being sentimental over child refugees" and branded the Tories as the "nasty party".

He also claimed that Derbyshire was rejecting what he said was the "same old, same old" from Labour and the Conservatives and that residents across the county were turning to the Liberal Democrats in local government – a party he said were making progress and gains in most local authorities in Derbyshire.

The Liberal Democrats have been running Duffield Parish Council for four years.

The constituency of Mid Derbyshire crosses 3 local authorities, Amber Valley Borough Council, Erewash Borough Council and Derby City Council and comprises borough areas including Little Eaton, Breadsall, Borrowash, Ockbrook, Stanley Common, West Hallam and Dale Abbey.
