A local fundraiser is to take part in the forthcoming Robin Hood Half Marathon to raise money for the charity MS Together, in memory of his Mum who passed away due to complications with multiple sclerosis and with the aim for it to be a catalyst for much more.
Lewis Durow from West Hallam will be part of a team of 14 people taking part in the annual event, to help raise vital funds and awareness for those affected with MS.
Lewis said: "My mum, Teresa O'Hara, had been living with MS for over 20 years. She fought hard and we want to honour her by doing something positive - something that gives back.
"So we're putting one foot in front of the other and launching an online donation page, 'MoveForMS' to document our journey as we run, train and take on challenges."
A statement posted on line on behalf of the group said: "Teresa was an incredibly strong, kind, and inspiring woman who touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Running in her memory is our way of honouring her spirit and supporting a cause that means so much to us all.
"MS affects thousands of people and their families in ways that are often unseen but deeply felt. Through this marathon, we want to raise awareness, funds, and hope for better treatments. With this marathon we will also be looking at future events to participate in to raise even more money."
Thanking everyone who followed and supported him, Lewis added: "We're just getting started but the goal is to keep this going, not just as a one-off."
The aim is to raise £10,000 but the group is already well on the way to reaching the target set.
The 'More Than MS Challenge' fundraising campaign encourages individuals to set personal challenges that showcase their strengths, passions and resilience beyond their MS diagnosis, whilst the aim of the charity, MS Together is to provide services for support and advice for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS), with a particular focus on those living with MS aged 18-35.
The Robin Hood Half Marathon is being held in Nottingham in late September.
