A local musician and music teacher has completed a feat of endurance and raised much needed funds for worthy causes.

Leon Wade, President of The Rotary Club of Long Eaton Dawnbreakers, played for 24 hours at The Duchess Theatre in Long Eaton without repeating a single piece of music.

By the time he completed the Pianothon, Leon had played 375 individual pieces ranging from pop and show tunes, through TV and film themes and Classical favourites.

Supported throughout the 24 hours by fellow Rotarians; family and friends, and a live breakfast show outside broadcast by Erewash Sound presenter Paul Stacey, Leon raised over £2,700. The funds will see sizeable donations to Treetops Hospice at Risley and Long Eaton & Sawley Foodbank as well as allowing the club to support other worthy causes throughout the year.

Leon said: "In these challenging times we are always looking to find innovative ways to capture people's imagination to raise funds and in a moment of madness, I suggested I play the piano for a full 24 hours. It was tiring both physically and mentally but it was great to accomplish it and support those in need."
