On June 6th, locally-directed radio disappeared further as a regional radio station put an end to its breakfast show, to be replaced by one single nationwide show for England and Wales instead from 9th June, punctuated only by relevant local news, travel and weather.
But, Erewash Sound has always been and remains fiercely local with live shows and local voices from local presenters every single day.
As a non-profit making social enterprise run almost entirely by experienced volunteers, we just don't have a budget for big cash prizes or campaigns but we can boast things that are far more important.
We provide opportunities to scores of young people to develop communication skills and self confidence through the NCFE accredited Erewash Sound Academy.
Every day, on air and on line, we promote and give a mouthpiece to lots of different community groups, charities and other non-profit organisations, detailing activities and increasing awareness as well as footfall to local events and helping maximise fundraising.
Every day, we bring you what are often vital pieces of news and information about getting around in Erewash, what is happening, what you need to know and so very much more besides.
This sort of publicity is not available in the same way from any other broadcaster, particularly as so many other stations become ever more regional or nationally driven.
We live and love Erewash - our community - and we remain passionate about keeping genuinely local radio alive and maximising social gain.
We’re not driven by shareholders, or funded by big corporations. We're powered by our amazing listeners, advertisers, sponsors, donations and fundraising.
But, although local radio elsewhere is under threat through nationalisation, to remain on air, to remain fiercely local where others aren't, Erewash Sound remains reliant on local businesses, donations and fundraising, to pay the considerable bills to continue broadcasting 24/7.
We have so much to offer to and for so many people, including so very many benefits for advertisers and sponsors to reach thousands every day on two FM frequencies and on line and genuinely back a community concern, with such investment directly powering a social enterprise.
If you believe local radio still matters – and most importantly, that it matters for Erewash, please SHARE this page and, perhaps get in touch and tell us what Erewash Sound means to you.
