A Long Eaton man who was banned from the town centre as part of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), has been sent to prison after being found at a property within the exclusion zone.
Jordan Werkowski-Freeman was found by officers in a house in Stanley Street just after 2.40pm on Friday 21st April. The whole of Stanley Street falls within the area of Long Eaton that Werkowski-Freeman is banned from.
The order remains in place and is due to expire at the end of August 2024.
Werkowski-Freeman was handed the three-year CBO following thefts from shops and repeated begging in Long Eaton town centre. The order banned him from entering the town centre.
Appearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Saturday 22nd April, the 33-year-old admitted breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order and was sent to prison for 14 weeks. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
A CBO can be issued by any criminal court against a person who has been convicted of an offence. It can be used to tackle the most persistent anti-social individuals who are also engaged in criminal activity.
Sergeant Sarah Carlile is from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team and said: “Werkowski-Freeman was given a chance by the courts to curb his anti-social behaviour and show that he could abide by the terms of his Criminal Behaviour Order, however he took the decision to ignore those restrictions and is now paying the price.
“When he comes out of prison, he will find that the restrictions remain in place until August 2024 and I would urge anyone who sees Werkowski-Freeman anywhere he shouldn’t be during the length of his CBO that they report it to the police as soon as possible.
“Criminal Behaviour Orders give criminals the chance to show that they can change their behaviour for the good of their community, however, we will bring anyone before the courts who break the order, with prison time for them an inevitability.”
