Man charged after Long Eaton High Street shops incident

A man has been charged following an incident in Long Eaton.

On Tuesday 18th April at around 5pm, Matthew McLees was in an intoxicated state and was repeatedly refused entry to multiple shops on the High Street in Long Eaton, leading to Police arriving and McLees telling PC Bates that he would not leave the area until he had “robbed” one of the shops.

This was followed by a string of verbal abuse and bad language after which he was arrested and later charged for Public Order offences.

Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team officers have subsequently offered thanks to shops along the High Street for their professionalism and response to Mr. McLees that afternoon, which prevented him from being able to carry out his intended actions. A statement also praised the community of staff from each shop in communicating with each other and preventing further offences from happening.
