Half-term free community fun day at Ilkeston Town FC - Paul Smithurst Erewash Sound
A new DIY superstore is to be officially opened by the Mayor of Erewash – just in time for Easter – spelling joy for DIY fans eager to get a few jobs done over the holiday period.
Civic leader Councillor Frank Phillips will cut the ribbon in Long Eaton on Friday 22nd March.
The home improvement firm, Wickes, will open their 230th outlet at the new 1.68-hectare Stadium Retail Park – a former industrial site on Nottingham Road that had lain derelict for a decade.
A Lidl supermarket is also being built there and is poised to open in summer.
Lead Member for Town Centres, Regeneration and Planning, Councillor Alex Breene, said: “Between them the two stores are creating around 70 jobs. This is another welcome boost following the £25million Town Deal that the council helped secure from the government to get Long Eaton thriving.”
The retail park will have spaces for more than 150 vehicles and will include EV charging.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property Dominic Bryan said: “We are extremely grateful for all the support we have received so far and look forward to bringing our high quality and best value produce to the local community.”
