Local Police officers have been running a joint operation to tackle rural crime in the area resulting in multiple arrests and a vehicle seized.
Representatives from Ilkeston and Heanor Safer Neighbourhood Teams and the Derbyshire Derbyshire Rural Crime Team have taken part in a joint operation to target an increase in motorbike thefts, farm equipment thefts and other rural crime in the local area.
The operation saw the deployment of officers over multiple nights using marked and unmarked vehicles in both rural and urban areas of our community. Thanks to the partnership work between units, officers were able to make use of the Rural Crime teams’ vast arsenal of equipment including drones and thermal scopes to better target criminality.
PC Hall from the Rural Crime Team, said: “Joint operation like this with Ilkeston and Heanor Safer Neighbourhood Teams are critical in the identification and apprehension of individuals linked to the increase in agricultural thefts in the Erewash and Amber Valley areas. Thefts of vehicles and tools from farms and businesses push up insurance premiums for them, which can have a catastrophic effect on their business viability. “
During the operation officers were deployed to multiple incidents reported, including two burglaries in progress and multiple reports of suspicious vehicles.
Officers were involved in the arrest of seven individuals for a variety of offences over the whole operation. one vehicle was seized and a Section 59 warning was issued for anti-social driving.
