Officials at the Ockash Trust have expressed delight at being able to visit a local school to support a recipient of a Citizens Award.

The Trust was set up in the year 2000 to mark the arrival of the Millennium in the villages of Ockbrook and Borrowash but work has continued since to raise funds to support local young people and help them reach their dreams and aspirations through a number of all-year-round events.

Officials visited Redhill School in The Ridings recently to support Eashan, who, over Christmas 2021, was unexpectedly diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1).

Tumours caused by NF1, have caused him to have a severe sight impairment. Eashan is currently undergoing 18 months of chemotherapy.

To support Eashan with his education, members of the Trust used funding to purchase a large number of items to keep him involved with the class and support the changes in his learning.

The treasurer of the Ockash Trust handed over a cheque to Eashan's teacher Miss Davies for £503 to cover the cost of the items and was able to find out at first hand how Eashan uses them and the difference it makes to his schoolday.

A Trust statement said: "It's been a great honour to support Eashan with his journey and after nearly twelve months since his initial diagnosis, it lovely to see him still playing and smiling."
