Officers from the Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Team are to execute powers to issue Community Protection Notices under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing 2014 act in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour around the Town Centre.
The move is also designed to support Erewash Borough Council’s Public Spaces Protection Order which is place around the Market Place.
Community Protection Notices (CPNs) are part of an incremental approach to ASB enforcement and can be issued by an authorised person including Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Council officers delegated these powers by the local authority. Failure to comply with a CPN is a criminal offence which can result in a fine, fixed penalty notice and a criminal behaviour order.
A CPN will be issued if Officers are satisfied, on reasonable grounds, that the conduct of an individual or organisation: –
Erewash Borough Council imposed the Public Spaces Protection Order the details of which are viewable on their website and relates to the areas included on the map below.
The activities which are to be prohibited are:
CPNs will be used when it is appropriate, proportionate and necessary in order to prevent escalation of the ASB and achieve long-term behavioural change.
