Angelique Foster, Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner, has commented on the seven per cent pay rise for police officers.
Officers of all ranks will receive the pay award, one of the highest in the public sector, from September 1 this year. The move comes after the Government accepted the full recommendation of the Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB).
Commenting on the pay award Angelique Foster, Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "This is good news for police officers across Derbyshire who work hard to keep the public safe. Officers deserve a fair pay award; they do a tough job, providing a vital public service. It's important to recognise and reward that.
"In addition, to deliver the best possible policing service to the public, we need to be able to recruit and retain the best people. This pay uplift will reward all officers from all ranks and support their career progression so they continue to serve our county with a strong commitment.
"It is important to me that our police staff also receive a fair pay award. Their contribution to public safety should not be underestimated and I will support a similar increase for all our staff."
Chief Secretary to the Treasury John Glen MP told the Commons that the offer represented a ‘fair deal' for public sector workers and would reduce the anxiety caused by cost-of-living pressures, while supporting recruitment and retention. He also said it was ‘fiscally responsible' and supported the Prime Minister's plans to cut inflation.
The Home Office has indicated the pay award will not be funded by new borrowing. Instead, it said Central Government departments would be reprioritising existing budgets and driving further efficiencies to focus spending where it delivers the greatest value.
It also plans to increase fees across a range of immigration and nationality routes for those coming to live, work and study in the UK.
