Prolific Ilkeston shoplifter appears in court to answer charges

A prolific shoplifter from Ilkeston has appeared before Derbyshire Magistrates.

Appearing in court on 23rd October, 24-year Wandile Ngcobo pleaded guilty to 4 charges of shop theft and was ordered to pay compensation in full for each offence.

He also received an 18 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

A 3 year Criminal Behaviour Order has been put in place which prevents Ngcobo from entering any retail store in Ilkeston, or the The Albion Centre, Bath Street, Ilkeston.

PC Dolby from Ilkeston Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Shoplifting has a devastating effect on local businesses and the staff who work there, as well as the knock on effect to the wider general public who are put off spending their time and money in these areas.

"Ngcobo is an habitual offender, and we are satisfied that the court has taken his repeated criminality seriously . Shoplifting is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated, we will continue to work closely with our local businesses and retailers to  bring offenders to justice."
