Prolific shoplifter who breached Criminal Behaviour Order jailed

A prolific shoplifter who breached his Criminal Behaviour Order by stealing from shops in Ilkeston has been jailed.

Haig Meads had been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) on 1st December 2023 for two years, banning him from entering Boots and the Co-op along with other conditions after he committed a number of thefts.

But he breached the order on several occasions between 21st October and 1st December this year by committing more shop thefts, including at Boots.

Meads also committed further thefts between 1st December and 10th December. He targeted the Tesco store in Rutland Street and Boots in Bath Street on a number of occasions, taking items including Christmas gift sets, electric shavers and a TV.

The 33-year-old attended Ilkeston police station on 11 December to hand himself in. He was then arrested in connection with the shop thefts and breach of his CBO.

Meads, of no fixed address, was subsequently charged with six shop thefts and breaching his CBO.

He admitted the offences and appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on 13 December when he was jailed for 24 weeks.

He was also given a two-year CBO banning him from entering Boots, Co-op, and Tesco Extra and with a condition not to remain in any retail or commercial premises in Derbyshire when asked to leave by staff, security, police or PCSOs.
