Residents of a block of flats just outside the town centre were forced to evacuate on Monday (25th November) after a suspected gas leak.
Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue crews were in attendance in Critchley Street from around 11:15am and awaited the presence of a gas engineers. A cordon was put into place with the directive issued to evacuate following the advice of emergency services.
Members of the public were also asked to avoid the area whilst the incident was dealt with, however, at around 1:30pm, those who had been evacuated from their homes were gradually allowed to return.
