Police officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neigbourhood Team visited a borough recreation ground recently where they provided and fixed badly needed new basketball nets.
The work at the Doncaster Avenue site in Sandiacre was done in collaboration with the local Parish Council who own and operate the park and sports court area.
One of the local police officers, a keen basketball fan, was made aware of an initiative by ProjectSwish, a Basketball England’s mission to improve outdoor basketball courts and improvements across England.
Since 2019, ProjectSwish has provided and distributed more than 10,000 free nets, identified thousands of places to play and supported dozens of court upgrades
The local children and young adults were keen to get using the nets straight away, even challenging the police team to a bit of a basketball shoot out.
