Officials at the Long Eaton-based headquarters of a hairdressing business are celebrating after two of its stylists were named as finalists at the British Hairdressing Awards 2025.
Joanne Roe and Joanna Bishop, who trained at the KH Hair Academy in the town, have been shortlisted for the Eastern Hairdresser of the Year title. Widely regarded as the highlight of the hairdressing calendar, the annual awards celebrate the outstanding creative and technical skills of stylists from across the United Kingdom.
Joanne and Joanna impressed the judges by demonstrating exceptional creativity, technical skill and artistic flair with their collection. They will now go head-to-head with some of the most talented names in the industry, with the winners set to be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony in London on Monday 24th November.
The British Hairdressing Awards remains one of the most respected and celebrated events in the global hairdressing calendar. From salon stylists to creative visionaries, the awards shine a spotlight on those who are shaping the future of the industry. The first round of judging took place on Monday 21st July at Epsom Downs Racecourse, where an expert panel of industry icons came together to review hundreds of collections across 18 regional and specialist categories.
With such a high standard of entries, competition was fierce and Joanne said that they are both absolutely delighted to be chosen as finalists: “It's been a tremendous effort balancing work, life, and family, but our hard work and dedication has paid off. We're thrilled to be doing it together and can't wait to celebrate in November with the best of the industry.”
Joanna described feeling overwhelmed when she received the news. She added: “To be a finalist in the British Hairdressing Awards alongside my work bestie, who's been by my side for most of my life, is truly a dream come true! This moment is a highlight of my career and I'm so thankful to be sharing it with my partner in crime. Huge congratulations to all the other finalists. We're honoured to be among such talented individuals. Fingers crossed for November. Wish us luck!”
Managing Director Darren Messias, added: "We are absolutely delighted for Joanne and Joanna on reaching the finals. They both worked so incredibly hard on this beautiful collection, not just on the day but all the preparation and planning in putting it together. It shows that hard work and persistence pays off and we wish them lots of luck for November.”
Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of award organisers Hairdressers Journal International, said: “The regional and specialist categories are the beating heart of the British Hairdressing Awards. These finalists are not only champions of creativity in their local communities, but also leaders in their craft across specialist areas – from Afro and Avant Garde to Colour and Men’s Hair. Every year, we’re blown away by the level of talent on display, and 2025 is no exception. These artists set the standard and inspire thousands — their vision helps shape the future of hairdressing, both in the UK and around the world.”
