New survey over plans for towns to get own councils

Letters are being sent to residents in parts of Erewash inviting them to give their views as part of the borough council's Community Governance Review. The review is considering proposals relating to local governance arrangements in several areas of the borough, including Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Kirk Hallam and Sandiacre. The Transport Secretary expects a big decision on the future of the A38 to be made by the end of the year. The Government has proposed cancelling a major project to expand the A38 to help tackle congestion problems on the busy Derby road. Plans to build a massive development of up to 450 homes next to the A52 in Derby are moving forward – despite “strong opposition”. Police officers in Long Eaton have issued an appeal for drivers to be mindful and keep roads and pavements clear of obstructions for everyone to access safely. Officers from the Amber Valley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team were carrying out proactive patrols in the Heanor area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the town centre. Businesses selling tobacco, vaping or nicotine products are being urged to get ready for changes in the law which if ignored could land them with a £200 fine. Derbyshire council resources will be directed toward filling potholes rather than removing flags installed on lampposts, its Reform UK leadership has said.
