Rail travellers faced significant disruption at the weekend with CrossCountry left to encourage passengers to check before making journeys, after a power outage affected its control centre. The issue resulted in major disruption across the network including covering Long Eaton Railway Station which has services running through it to Nottingham, Birmingham New Street and Cardiff Central. Police officers in Ilkeston have responded having been made aware of an increase in instances of anti-social driving in the town. A statement said that issues, already known to affect Chalons Way, had become worse, but that surrounding areas were also being affected. Local residents are being encouraged to report anti-social driving seen occurring in the area. A borough bus service has been saved following the intervention of the regional Mayor, Erewash MP and two local councillors, including a former borough Mayor. Officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team have thanked those who took part in a collective effort to clear a major road of a fallen tree. The incident affected Derby Road though Risley, but the matter was soon dealt with after members of the local community, a restaurant and a local landscaping company came together to get the road cleared.
