Groundwork charity tackles damp and mouldy homes

Regional charity Groundwork Five Counties is working with local authorities and social housing associations in the East Midlands to educate and support tenants to be safe from damp and mould. In 2025/26, the charity visited 427 households and found a total of 2,001 rooms that were not up to standard. Groundwork Five Counties has recently published its annual report which highlights how damp and mould is a widespread problem in social housing. Ilkeston Police officers have issued an appeal for information after a robbery in the area, in which a 15-year-old boy had an e-scooter stolen. Police and Borough Council partnership sees traffic operation in Long Eaton

A joint operation between local Police officers and the borough council has seen a traffic operation carried out in Long Eaton. The initiative saw Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team, Roads Policing and Licensing Team officials set up checks in Wilsthorpe Road. Over a two hour period, 13 tickets were issued for drivers/passengers not wearing their seatbelts, 5 tickets for drivers using their mobile phone and 2 for number plate offences. A man has been charged following an assault in Ilkeston town centre. Derbyshire Police officers were called to reports that a man had been stabbed in South Street at about 6:30pm on Friday 10th July.
