Shoppers using one of Erewash’s busiest car parks are benefiting from a major programme of resurfacing work by the borough council.

The new tarmac and freshly-painted lines are at the Albion Centre in Ilkeston. The borough council apologised for any inconvenience while the improvements took place.

Heavy machinery was brought in, which meant the main car park had to be closed to traffic – although drivers were able to leave their vehicles in spaces on the approach to it.

Attention has now turned to the town’s Park Cemetery, where an old tarmac footpath is being resurfaced. Work to also give it new kerbs and edgings is expected to take around fo0ur weeks.

Contractors will then move on to West Park in Long Eaton. Footpaths there have suffered from tree roots pushing up the tarmac.

The projects coincide with Derbyshire County Council – which is responsible for local roads – getting extra Government funding to tackle potholes.
