The Active Lives in Erewash Awards have previously seen the likes of paralympian Abbie Breakwell being honoured. The inspirational wheelchair tennis ace, 21 – who competed at the Paris 2024 Games – is from Long Eaton.

The 2025 awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 23rd January at the New Manor Ground – home of Ilkeston Town FC. People have until Sunday 1st December to suggest nominations in eight categories.

These include the Special Recognition Award – which Abbie scooped in 2022.

The others are: Active Leader Award, Active Volunteer Award, Active Participant, Active Young Person Award, Active Group Award, Legacy Leisure Adversity Award and Active Project Award.

Full details, including how nominations can be submitted, are on the Erewash Borough Council website here.

Names can also be emailed to: communityhealthwellbeing @ erewash.gov.uk

Councillor Josy Hare, who is Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “There are many amazing and inspirational individuals and organisations across the borough who deserve recognition – and these awards aim to do just that. So please hurry and get your nominations in.”
