On the 6th September, The Nods, a drama group based in the East Midlands, and the Ockbrook and Borrowash Cricket club, are working together to put on an open air performance of ‘Outside Edge’. The play, is a comedy that shows the ins and outs of a cricket clubs weekend match, on a sunny summer afternoon.
"It’s going to be great fun to put on a play about cricket at the cricket club." Said Ian McHugh, chairman of the Theatre Company. "The play is funny and captures something unique about the British summer."
This performance, is in memory of Michelle Anthony, who passed away from a brain tumour in May this year. Michelle, an NHS worker for 15 years, had lived with a complex brain tumour for over a decade and was married to a member of the NODs drama society, Owen Anthony.
When Owen had to drop out of the plays original run, at the Duchess Theatre in Long Eaton back in May, because of his wife’s ill health, the Nods committee sought a way to honour her memory.
"Owen has been a member of our society since 2012 and we saw how Michelle’s struggle with cancer, profoundly affected him, his daughter and the wider community. It will be great to give him the chance to put on this performance in her memory." Said Ian.
The Nods will be donating 10% of any profits, to the Kings Lodge Rehabilitation Centre at Royal Derby Hospitals Trust, who helped Michelle after one of her surgeries.
