After several cancellations due to weather, Everyone Eats, a local charity organisation in Ilkeston, is hosting a family fun day event on Saturday 6th of September, to give children and parents a chance to enjoy themselves without worrying about the cost.
Lindsey Rice, chair and co-founder of Everyone Eats, discussed the importance of these events to the community, “The Family Fun Day is a day that we've created to allow families to come out and have a good day, and not spend a fortune, because we understand that money's tight. So we still want people to be able to come out with their families and enjoy a day out.”
The co-founder added that the event offers a lot of activities for families and children, “The first 400 children through the gate will get a free snack box. We've got a face painter there all day, free for the children. We've got Richard Arter with his steel drums. He does a steel drum workshop, which is free for the children. We've got a couple of rides for the kids as well,”.
The local organization focuses on bringing the community together without having financial pressures, "The main goal of the event is for the community to come together on a day just to enjoy a day all together. So it doesn't matter whether you've got a pound in your pocket; there will be something there that you can do," Lindsey explained.
Every One Eats operates a food bank in the Ilkeston area, where the food parcels are delivered to people's homes. Also, it has a community Christmas Day meal and a summer event combining live music and food.
