A Derbyshire hotel which has been used as asylum seeker accommodation has become centre of heated debate with officials. At an Erewash Borough Council meeting last week (Thursday, July 23) councillors debated the continued use of the Best Western Hotel in Sandiacre for asylum seeker accommodation. Erewash has seen an invasion of quirky old French cars that were last made decades ago in one of its twin towns across the Channel. A man who assaulted, threatened and harassed his partner has been jailed. Nathan Grant was on licence having been released from prison for a previous violent offence when he committed the offences against the woman. Police were called after Grant assaulted the woman by punching her in the ribs, arms and legs before grabbing her by the throat and squeezing until she couldn’t breathe. Police officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team have taken action after spotting a young male on a bike who was loitering and acting suspiciously on Wilsthorpe Road. On Monday 13th July, offices went to speak to the male who then tried to make off, but after a brief tussle, he was detained for a stop-search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
