Report: It was much cooler this week, and the moderate to brisk SW wind brought in clouds, which were accompanied by rain showers throughout the day.  The wind was blowing into the low numbers and across the lake at 45 degrees, making accurate casting, and long pole, difficult. Once again, the fish appeared spread around the lake and everyone had a decent day’s sport, even the “DNWs” admitting to having caught in excess of fifty pounds.

As attendance was down from that in recent weeks (holidays and hospital appointments), the payout was adjusted accordingly to the overall winner and then (by default) to the winners of each bank (A and B).”
The match developed into a battle between two Johns, Adamson on A13 and Brandrick on A6, which was finally decided when the latter “went over” on one of his nets, and over 65 pounds was “knocked back” to 60 pounds, giving the win to the former by a mere two pounds and four ounces.

On A13, John Adamson fished his usual 28g Nisa Porky method feeder to the island for most of his carp, although he added four decent fish on bomb and pellet and a couple from the margin to total 127-02 for the win.

On peg A6, John Brandrick started on the feeder, but quickly switched to bomb and pellet when he spotted carp near the small island.  He had a productive spell there before a switch to his margins in the latter stages added several more decent fish.  His first net was well over the 60 lb limit (and was knocked back), his second was 59-15, and his third was 4-15 of silvers to total 124-14 and second overall (taking the A bank pool).

Lee Clark (on A20 again!) struggled to catch on the method feeder, but fishing his pole with corn bait landed several carp for his third-place overall of 108-09.

Facing the wind (and rain), Andy Findlay on peg B3 opted to fish his method feeder short.  He caught bream throughout the early stages, and then added several carp from his margins to end with 98-05 for fourth overall, which won him the B bank pool.

Gaz Kitch (A15) struggled to catch on the method feeder for much of the match before a switch to pole and paste transformed his day, as several decent carp followed one another into his landing net in the latter stages.  He was halted when his elastic parted on another decent fish, and had to settle for fifth place with 94-10.

Another late performer was Rich Reeve on peg A9.  He had caught very little until the final hour, when the carp moved into his margins, and fishing with bunches of maggots on the hook ended with 84-00 to task sixth place.

Once again, many thanks to the Fin for his scales work (assisted by John Brandrick).

NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
