Report: Despite the heavy rain, attendance was still excellent this week. Fortunately, the rain eased as the day progressed, and we were able to enjoy the final couple of hours in relatively dry conditions. As usual, the pool payout was to the overall winner, and then defaulted to the top two weights on each bank (A and B). The bulk of the carp appeared to have followed the warm Southerly wind, and had moved mainly to the low numbers, which filled the top three places.
Shaun Weed was thrilled to draw peg A6. Targeting carp, he fed groundbait and maggots at six metres, and, fishing the pole, caught decent fish to total a winning 84-05, despite (as usual) going over in one net, which was knocked back to 60 pounds.
Stu Jones on peg B3, who faced the wind (and rain), caught a couple of early fish on bomb and bread before it went quiet. By lightly feeding pellets halfway to the island and fishing a bomb and pellet bait on that line, he found quality carp prepared to feed. His 77-12 total put him second overall, taking first place on the B bank.
John Lack continued his decent form to take third overall and win the A bank pool. Fishing peg A8, John targeted carp on the bomb and pellet, and put 51-05 on the scales.
Andy Findlay was on peg A19, and fishing the method feeder, he alternated his casts between the island to his right and the margins to his left. His final tally of six fish weighed 41-06 and secured fourth place overall, taking second place in the A bank pool.
Paul Reynolds, happy to draw peg B19, fished for bream on pole and pellet. He had fewer bream than he expected, but by catching more carp than anticipated, he lifted his weight to 40-11 for fifth place overall, which took second in the B bank pool.
Many thanks to all who assisted with the scales (especially Rob, Paul and Andy), enabling a quick weigh-in.
Please note that from next week the matches will be held from 10am to 3pm. To fish, pay in before 8:20 am so we can draw at 8:30am.
NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
