Report: The match, scheduled for Lake Two, was moved due to work to repair the A bank had commenced, taking advantage of the dry conditions. Hopefully, all will be completed next week so we may return to the lake.
Instead, the match was fished over two lakes, both of which afforded “feeder chucks”, Lizard (Phase Two) and Severn (Phase Three). On each lake the payout was to the top three on the lake, with the overall match winner receiving a £16 “win bonus”. There should have been 9 on each lake, but two failed to attend without notice and will suffer match bans. The pegging was reduced to 8 on each lake, which unfortunately reduced the planned payout.
Instead of the recent calm, bright and warm weather, the match was fished in a near SW gale, the wind so strong it was difficult to stand up. Thankfully, it eased a little during the day, and the forecast rain did not come. However, both lakes fished reasonably well and provided good weights, although the better weights were from Severn.
On Lizard, the top weight of 99-01 was taken by Shaun Weed. Shaun was not too pleased with his peg, 8, but by fishing a method feeder to the far bank he caught decent carp for a clear lake win. On peg 16, behind the island, Martin Hincks also fished a method feeder for second place on the lake with 74-07, with Daz Milne (peg 6) filling third spot with 52-12, taken mainly on the bomb and pellet.
On Severn, John Adamson on peg 12 enjoyed a brilliant day to win the lake with 145-09. After a slow start while adjusting to the strong facing wind, he caught carp steadily on the method feeder for both the lake and match win. Gaz Kitch (peg 1) took second on the lake, fishing similarly, with 91-04, with Shane Sayers (peg 14) third with 78-09, including several fish taken on the pole and pellet in the latter stages. Just out of the prizes was junior angler Jacob Lloyd with a weight of 77-01 from peg 10. Jacob caught on the method feeder with the bulk of his fish taken from the deeper open water to his left.
Many thanks to Bailiff Flynn for “weighing in” on Lizard, and Gaz Kitch, similarly for Severn.
Hopefully, next week we will return to a fully repaired Lake Two.
NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
