Report: As the “Fishomania” is fished on Wednesday over the whole venue, this week’s Nisa Open on Lake Two was switched to Tuesday, and although numbers were slightly down (mainly as anglers were saving themselves for the “Fisho”) we still had a decent turnout enabling us to cover the whole lake.

This week's payout was to the overall winner and then (default) to the winner of each bank.  Although everyone caught fish, only 8 bothered to weigh in, the rest leaving promptly to avoid the traffic.

It was a clear, bright, sunny day with a little intermittent and cooling NE breeze, and after the first hour, carp, in pairs or shoals of up to a dozen or more, could be seen cruising around the whole of the lake, probably getting ready to spawn.

Many found it a slow start, although some caught carp immediately, either on the pellet waggler or pole shallow.  Shaun Weed (B21) started with a bang – several decent carp from the start on waggler, and then on pole shallow.  By alternating between the two methods throughout the day, Shaun kept fish coming and accumulated 172-07 for a clear win.

Diagonally opposite the winner on A10, Shane Sayers also fished a superb match, again milking the cruising shoals of carp on pellet waggler, bomb and pole for 124-11 to take second place, and to win the A bank pool.

On B10, John Adamson was having a nightmare match, and 75 minutes from the end, had only a tiny carp and a roach (approximately 1-08 for the two) in his net.  Suddenly, the fish started to feed, and using a 28g Nisa Porky method feeder and alternating wafter and pellet baits, he added a procession of decent carp and bream to his nets to end with 91-12 for third overall and a default B bank win.

Chris Wayte (A15) was fourth with 83-07 taken on bomb and pellet, losing many fish in the snags to his right (metal from old pegs and reed beds that pushed into the lake when the bank was unstable), Lee Clark (A13) with 60-07 was fifth, with Peter Stockwin (B18) sixth with 59-05.

Many thanks to everyone who helped with the weigh-in. Next week we return to our regular Wednesday slot.

NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
