Report: The day had a strong Autumnal feel about it, starting off quite cool, dull and still, then as the day progressed, a watery sun made an appearance, although it failed to raise the temperature.
As there was a decent turnout, the payout this week was to the overall winner and then (by default) to the top two on each bank, A and B.
The bulk of the fish appeared to be in the early pegs (adjacent to the first island) on both A and B banks, where leaves and debris had collected on the water surface. This was reflected by the money winners, with four of the five being pegged around that first island in the early numbers.
Andy Findlay made a triumphal return after his week at the Lindholme “Octoberfest” (where he had numerous pool wins and came overall second), taking top spot from peg B11. Fishing the method feeder with pellet bait, after a very slow start, he winkled out 133-09 of nice-sized carp for the overall win.
On the opposite bank on peg A6, the in-form John Lack once again missed out on his ambition to beat the Fin, but ran his a very close second with a weight of 127-12 of decent carp. John also had a very slow start, but once the fish moved onto his pellet feed, fishing the bomb and 8ml banded pellet did the damage. This took first place for the A bank pool.
On peg B1, Rich Reeve enjoyed himself by banking 102-07 to take third place overall. Trying something different, Rich employed the “T-bag” method with a size 16 hook and pellet to catch decent-sized carp, which took third overall and was first for the B bank pool.
Fourth place went to the ever-consistent Chris Wayte, who this week was on peg B14. After a very slow start, Chris caught the bulk of his fish from the margins on pole, with maggot bait, securing second spot for the B bank pool.
Of the remaining “weighers” on the B bank, Stuart Jones on B21 was in fifth place with a pole caught 55-04, whilst Tony Brookes (B17) filled the seventh spot with 49-07 taken on his slow sinking float.
Once again, many on the A bank struggled for bites for most of the day. Except for John Lack’s second-place weight, the only catch of significance was John Adamson (A20), who managed to catch six carp on the method feeder (wafter bait) for a weight of 51-04, which was 6th overall, but filled second place for the A bank pool.
My thanks to Andy Findlay and John Lack for their assistance with the scales.
As the clocks change next week, please note that the draw and fishing times will also change.
NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
