Report: With several anglers involved in festivals elsewhere, although numbers were down a bit this week, there was still a healthy turnout, and again, all caught fish, although not all weighed in at the end. Once again, it was a very hot and humid day with the temperature ion the high twenties.

Another couple of interesting points: firstly, we have had seventy different anglers fish the matches this year; Secondly, prize money has now been won off 26 different pegs on Lake Two, which demonstrates that you have a chance of a prize from any peg.

This week, the payout was to the overall winner, and then (by default) the winners of each bank, A & B.

This week’s winner came from the Southern Hemisphere.  Ivan Mitchell (staying in one of the Lodges on site) put in a superb display on peg A11 to catch 157-02 of carp for a clear win.  He had a few fish on pole shallow, but caught the bulk of his fish on bomb and pellet and method feeder (baiting with banded 8 ml pellet).

On peg A6, John Adamson came second with 118-15 of carp but had a strange match.  Starting on the bomb and pellet he caught several small carp close in (losing three foul hooked fish) before that swim “died”, when he cast to the main island and had several more fish.  75 minutes in, with 30 lb in the net, that swim also “died”, and he caught nothing more until 90 minutes from the end, when he spotted that the ducks were reluctant to feed near the small island, so he cast his method feeder to that spot.  Within minutes, he had a carp and then caught steadily to the end of the match to take the A bank pool.

Directly opposite, on peg B12, Shane Sayers decided to target bream, and by fishing pole and alternating between deep and shallow rigs, he caught fish from 8 oz to nearly 4 lbs to end with 69-06 of bream, which added to his bonus carp totalled 105-15 for third place overall and to win the B bank pool.

The others to weigh in: Daz Milne (A13, 68-10 for 4th place) mainly on bomb and pellet; Ricky Arms (A20, 52-10 for 5th place) mainly on pole and feeder; Phil Hunt (B21, 43-15 for 6th place) on method feeder; John Lack (B18, 34-04 for 7th place) carp on method feeder.

Many thanks to everyone who assisted with the weigh-in.  I hope you didn’t feel as “knackered” as I did afterwards.

NB.  Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
