Report: Despite the inclement weather report, there was a decent turnout with 16 anglers around the lake. Although the strong and cold W-NW and gusting wind made presentation difficult, except for one short shower, the rain kept away.
Gavin James was a clear winner this week from peg B24 with 103-08. Facing the wind, Gavin caught decent carp on the method feeder cast towards the island. He lost a few fish in snags but was easily the overall winner, letting second-placed Andy Findlay (B17) win the B bank by default. Andy also fished the method feeder, and by casting to several different spots against the island, despite snags (and lost feeders), managed to catch smaller carp and bream to make up his 82-10, which was just enough to push “Mr Consistent” Shane Sayers into third place overall.
Shane drew A9, one of the widest parts of the lake, and opted to fish mainly on the bomb and pellet. With the wind “off his back”, Shane was able to loose feed 8ml pellets a reasonable distance, and he landed several of the big old Lake Two carp for a total of 80-10, which was enough to win the A bank pool.
Fourth place went to John Adamson (peg A6) with 63-09, consisting of 3 bream and the rest carp, including two doubles (a “ghosty” and a mirror), all on the method feeder. Eventually finding a snag-free spot against the main island, he had most fish there but added the “ghosty” and three others from near the small island, although diving ducks eating pellets were a nuisance throughout the match. This took second place for the A bank pool.
Andy Edgington was not pleased with his peg, B2, and decided to “enjoy a good day’s fishing and catch silvers to pass the time”. At the scales, he had three small carp for 16-04, and 29-10 of small silvers (roach, skimmers, perch etc.) for a total of 45-14, which took second place in the B bank pool.
Of the other leading weights, Chris Wayte with 44-09 from A13, Marcus Webb with 44-06 from A15, and Martin Hincks with 43-10 from B19, all caught on bomb and pellet, while Gaz Kitch (35-13 from A2) caught mainly on the method feeder.
Once again, many thanks to Andy Findlay for his great assistance at the weigh-in. We are all back on Lake Two for Wednesday next week.
NB. Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
