Report: Lake Two is now fishing well. The carp have spread around the lake, and the bream are also showing in most areas, meaning that wherever you draw, you are in with a chance of a prize. Although only ten anglers bothered the scales, all the “DNWs” caught fish, but as they knew they could not frame, instead they opted for a quick getaway.
Once again, we had a decent turnout, reflected in the payout, which was to the overall winner and then (by default) to the top two weights on each bank (A and B), and to cap it all, the weather remained pleasant, mainly sunny with a decent breeze, and dry all day.
Last week’s winner, John Adamson, continued with another win, this time from peg B21. He fished the method feeder throughout the day for half a dozen bream and the rest carp (fish from three to eleven pounds) for a weight of 130-09. He also dragged out several lengths of line that were tangled around branches, so the swim should be clear for the next angler.
The battle for second place was fought out on the A bank between Rob Lowe (A6) and Andy Findlay (A15), and at the end only eight ounces was between them.
Rob had the odd fish on the method feeder, but did the damage on the pole over the last two hours when decent carp moved into his margin, where he caught steadily on paste over 4ml pellet feed. He ended with 121-10 for second overall, which also won the A bank pool.
In contrast, Andy fished the method feeder towards the island all match, and steadily accumulated fish throughout. Despite the long casting, he managed to put 121-02 into his nets for third place overall, which took second place in the A bank pool.
A flurry of weights on the B bank took the next four places, led by Gaz Kitch (on B17 again) with 107-14 for fourth place overall and to take the B bank pool. Gaz caught carp on the method feeder towards the island in the early stages, before switching to his margins for several decent fish in the latter stages.
Fifth overall was Rich Reeves from B1. Despite the tantrum at the draw (“what a useless peg, I might as well fish somewhere else, etc. etc.”), Rich then ignored his own advice and put 89-09, all carp, on the scales to take second place in the B bank pool, most of his fish coming from his margins.
Lee Clark (B11) was sixth with 82-11, again mainly from his margins, followed by Phil (Bagga) Hunt (B4), who also caught in the latter stages from his margins for a weight of 73-04.
Thanks for the assistance with the weigh-in from Rob Lowe, Tony Brookes and Andy Findlay.
