SUMMER KIDZ: Last Days of Summer: Best activities for kids before school returns

As the long summer holidays draw to a close, families across Erewash still have plenty of opportunities to enjoy quality time together before the school routine begins again. 

With just one week left until the new academic year, local organisations and community groups are offering a wide variety of events for children and young people of all ages, from theatre workshops and sport sessions to outdoor adventures and creative clubs. On the Erewash Borough Council website, you will find a guide highlighting a wide range of activities and events until the end of the holiday. 

Today, Wednesday, August 27th, Erewash Museum Picnic Time is welcoming families from 11 am to 4 pm to bring their favourite cuddly toy for a day of games, crafts, and beach play in the museum garden.

Later in the week, on Thursday, August 28th, all families are invited to participate in an evening Bat Walk at Bennerley Viaduct, a free nature event starting at 8:30 pm. Volunteers will guide visitors through spotting bats in their natural habitat. Also, you can enjoy live aerial performances at Erewash Museum from 11 am to 4 pm. 

The final Friday of the month, August 29th, brings different family-friendly events. Hope Long Eaton brings Fab Fridays Family Picnic with a giant inflatable at Petersham Green.

The activities continue into the first week of September, with opportunities like Nordic walking for adults in Ilkeston, creative workshops, and friendship hubs that welcome people of all ages. 

From sport to creativity, outdoor walks to singing and circus skills, there is something to suit every interest before the school bell rings again.
