I joined the team at Erewash Sound in early 2010 and was delighted to be around when the station launched on March 6th of that year. I have always been interested in radio and as a youngster had my own radio station that broadcast from the bottom of our garden into the kitchen. I had a fan club comprising of my Mum, Dad and sister, who were forced to listen!
In my previous life as a Primary School Headteacher, I ran two school radio stations for pupils, parents and friends of the school. This inspired me to use my skills as a volunteer on Erewash Sound when I retired.
I began working behind the scenes until I was asked to present on weekday mornings with my first show on October 6th 2010. More recently, I handed over the reins of that show to take up and extended Saturday Breakfast from 7:00am-10:00am. I really enjoy doing it and hope that my listeners enjoy it, too.
I can, of course, only work on Erewash Sound, with the fantastic support of my lovely wife, Valerie, my three grown up children, James, Eloise and Edward and my three beautiful grandchildren, Ella, Alfie and baby Lucas. They are, hopefully, my greatest fans and regular listeners.
I joined Erewash Sound because I believe that Community Radio should be at the heart of the Community, making a difference to the lives of all the listeners and I believe that this station really does do that. Yes, the music is great and important, but so is bringing local news, community notices, a slice of good humour and a strong sense of local pride to the airwaves and to the wonderful borough of Erewash. We have much to be proud of in this part of Derbyshire and Erewash Sound is, in my opinion, a beacon for that.
We are all very conscious of the fact that Erewash Sound is now the only commercial radio station in this area that broadcasts exclusively from the borough 24 hours a day. This means that we have an awesome responsibility to provide good quality local radio. I intend to be a part of that for as long as I am needed.
