Report: Once again, we had an excellent turnout, so the payout remained the same – paying the overall winner, and then (defaulting) to the top two weights on each bank of the lake, A and B.
Although it remained dry and the pressure was higher, the bitterly cold and persistent East wind had a derogatory effect on sport, and generally, weights were much lower than hoped for, with most anglers struggling for bites throughout the day.
The exception was the Fin. Andy Findlay was quite satisfied with his draw of A6. Fishing with a method feeder throughout the day, he started by fishing towards the island, and except for one spell where he caught several carp, he did not see a great deal of action. A switch to the margins and a steady stream of carp found their way into his keepnets, resulting in 120 pounds of carp on the scales and another win.
John Adamson was also pleased with his draw of A11, and after catching a 3 lb carp on his first cast, avidly awaited his next indication. It was over two hours before anything else occurred, when a couple more fish fell to his method feeder tactic before all went quiet again. Another wait, and a couple more, until the final hour when he added a few more, to end with around 10 fish for 78-09 for second overall and to take the A-bank pool.
Tony Brookes was not over-pleased to be on peg A2, and even at the end felt disappointment with his 50-09, caught on a variety of methods throughout the day. However, he was third overall and took second place on the A bank.
Dean Hall (A15) was fourth overall with 42-04 (method feeder), Chris Wayte (A9) fifth with 40-04 (mainly pole/margin, losing several fish), and Gaz Kitch (A20) in seventh with 33-09 on the feeder.
On the B bank, Tony Lamb (sixth overall) on B19 switched methods throughout the day for his 34-06 to win the B-bank pool, with Steve Bentley (B21) second in the pool and 8th overall with 33-00 (also falling to various methods).
My thanks to Tony Brookes and Andy Findlay for their scale work for the weigh-in.
Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook “Nisa – midweek open matches” to book a place).
