All Move in Erewash makes positive impact

Erewash Borough Council-led initiative ‘All Move in Erewash’ (AMiE) has helped residents with long-term health conditions become more active, a report has shown. AMiE has already helped people like Stephen who suffered a spine injury but started taking part in a gentle walk at Rutland Sports Park in Ilkeston after it was recommended by a social prescriber. Social prescribers connect people to local activities, groups, and services in their community to support their health and wellbeing. He was sceptical it […]

Food waste that has been recycled thanks to Erewash residents using dedicated new bins has topped 257 tonnes in just over a month - equivalent in weight to THIRTY-THREE double-decker buses. The borough council issued an update showing how local people have got on board with veg peelings, plate scrapings and other leftovers including tea bags being turned into biofuel and fertiliser. The authority’s weekly collections, which started in April, have been an even bigger success than previously thought. The […]

Mayor’s 3-wheel tour is boost no.2 for Scouts

A mad-cap three-wheel charity stunt by Erewash’s Mayor has given a second boost to the thriving local Scouts movement – hot on the heels of a council grant making a “massive difference” for hundreds of the organisation’s big-hearted and adventurous youngsters. Jubilant civic head Cllr Harry Atkinson last month raised money for the 1st Sawley Scouts by completing a 2,000-mile grand tour of the borough’s three twin towns in a pal’s Reliant Robin. He was sponsored to the tune of […]

Erewash Investment Fund set for major boost

An extra £4.5million is set to be invested in Erewash, meaning a total of £6.5m will be spent to improve life for people in the borough. The extra millions for the Erewash Investment Fund were approved after the council took on board feedback from residents following its budget consultation earlier this year. Last year the council allocated £2m to the new fund for projects that would benefit local people. A further £4.5m has been set aside for the Erewash Investment […]

‘Higgledypiggledy garden mess’

A council has been accused of making a “higgledy-piggledy mess” over land it has told Derbyshire residents to buy, rent or have seized. At an Erewash Borough Council meeting last week (Thursday, April 23rd), councillors discussed the ongoing issue of potentially seizing land used as gardens from 35 homeowners in Doncaster Grove, Long Eaton, after decades of private use. A move from the opposition Conservative group, led by Cllr Wayne Major and supported by other groups, saw a vote urging […]

Garden seizure threat

Dozens of residents in a Derbyshire town have been told they must either buy or rent land they believed was their garden – or face having it seized. A string of 35 houses in Doncaster Grove, Long Eaton, include extensive gardens which back onto an offshoot of the River Erewash and the Manor Farm and Toton Fields nature reserves. However, much to their surprise and “disgust”, two years ago, Labour-run Erewash Borough Council informed the homeowners that they do not […]
