A castle-themed design and a woodland-style haven are the two contenders for a new £75,000 fun zone that Erewash Borough Council is planning to build – with residents being invited to pick the one their children would prefer.

The vote is the third of its kind to be held in the borough over the past two years. The first was for a showcase playground in Long Eaton’s West Park.

Next came a thrilling fun zone at Ilkeston’s Wash Meadows, which is known locally as Johnny’s Park.

The latest project to delight youngsters is also in Ilkeston – at Erewash Square in Larklands. The winning design will replace a playground that already exists there.

Option One is woodland-themed with a “treetop” tower, a squirrel hunt trail and “sensory” elements. Option Two boasts turrets and a “super-fast high slide”.

Residents have until Friday 20th February to vote for their favourite here.

The project is the latest to be fuelled by the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund – and is part of the council’s Play Area Refurbishment Programme.

Cllr Josy Hare, who is Erewash’s Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We are proud to have secured funding on behalf of families and their children.

“It is so important that we provide good quality, free and accessible spaces to enjoy together, especially as they keep children happy and healthy through play.

“Make sure to get your votes in by 12pm on Friday 20th February so we can give you the play area that you want to see.”
