A gym at one of Erewash Borough Council’s leisure centres has been beefed up at a cost of over £60,000 with state-of-the art cardio equipment – featuring “immersive on-demand workouts” and an app that can be downloaded to track fitness levels.
Sixteen-inch touchscreens mean gymgoers at Ilkeston’s Rutland Sports Park can experience more than 100 virtual terrains.
The investment – which has seen the gym redecorated and all its cardio fitness machines replaced – is the latest by the company that has a contract to run the council’s leisure centres.
Erewash’s Deputy Leader Cllr Becca Everett, who is the authority’s Lead Member for Community Engagement, said: “The people of Erewash are rightly proud of how the borough offers such fantastic leisure amenities – and this is the latest example of these superb facilities going from strength to strength.”
Glen Hall, managing director of Parkwood Leisure, told how his firm’s total investment over the past five years now tops £1.3million. The latest new gear has been provided by Life Fitness – and includes its Lifefitness app.
Mr Hall said: “Our partnership with the council continues to strengthen and provide the people of Erewash with new and excellent leisure facilities and services.”
He added that premium gym membership – offering a host of perks including training classes and full pool access – remains competitively priced.
