A borough bowling alley which has recently undergone renovations now faces the prospect of a clean up and extensive repairs and will be closed until further notice after a car ploughed through a wall and went across all of the bowling lanes before coming to rest in a wall at the other side.

Three pedestrians were injured after the incident in Derby Road, Ilkeston on Friday 12th June. A large hole was left in the wall at the Derby Road side of the building, just to the left of some scaffolding which had been erected whilst the illuminated sign on the building was being serviced.

A statement from Derbyshire Police said that a car had struck another at around 5pm, before a BMW collided with and going through the wall of the MFA Bowling Alley.

People were asked to avoid the area due to a road closure that was put into place for some time although a group of people including children did gather to watch the scene unfold.   A 21 year old man was arrested but hospitalised.  The other vehicle was reported to be a Tesla.

Police officials are asking for anyone with any information or dash cam footage to come forward by calling the non-emergency number 101, or by using their website or social media, quoting incident number 763 of 12th June.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, which has a fire station immediately across the road from the scene, assisted Police with the incident.

Those who were injured sustained minor injuries and were treated by East Midlands Ambulance Service staff.  Reports suggest that an air ambulance was deployed to location during the incident.

The extent of the damage to the building was being assessed.  There are currently no further details as to those involved or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A spokesperson for the MFA Bowl said: “A huge thank you to all of the emergency services involved yesterday.  We are extremely grateful that those injured only suffered minor injuries.  Please know that we will be back open once we’re allowed.”
