A Derbyshire girl has become Miss Derbyshire after scoring the highest of entrants across the county, and has also secured a place in the The Miss England Grand Final.
In the talent round, Sophie Mitchell performed a tribute to Dolly Parton, singing the iconic song ‘Coat of Many Colours’, and finished second, which also helped secure her progression to the next stage.
25-year old Sophie, from Horsley Woodhouse, also received the Miss People’s Choice Award, having picked up the highest number of public votes.
A proud Sophie said: “I will now compete in the Miss England Grand Final, with the incredible opportunity, if successful, to represent England at Miss World in Tanzania.”
“What makes this week particularly special is that, just the day before the Miss England competition, I was competing with my horse at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show, where we finished 8th nationally in the Intermediate Show Hunter class!”
As a local Derbyshire girl who spends most of her days working outdoors with animals and horses, Sophie is passionate about showing that young women can embrace both their practical, countryside lifestyle and their glamorous side.
She added: “I hope that my journey encourages other young women to pursue their ambitions, even if they don’t fit the traditional mould.”
Her riding clothes will be swapped for her very best night time attire when she competes in the final of Miss England on November 17th.
