Major road resurfacing programme starts in Derbyshire

More than 110 roads across Derbyshire will be resurfaced over the coming year as part of a major programme by Derbyshire County Council.

In addition, contractors are just finishing the surface dressing programme, where more than 80 roads have been improved since May. Surface dressing is a treatment used on roads that are in a good condition, to protect and prolong their life by sealing and waterproofing the road, and work has just started on the council’s micro-asphalt programme, with more than 90 roads being improved. Micro asphalt is where a thin surface is mixed in a lorry, laid on top of the existing road surface, and then rolled, to extend the life of the road.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal said: “We’ve made great progress already this year with improving roads across the county and I’ve been to see several of the jobs in progress.

“Altogether this year we will be improving parts of almost 300 roads, which will help get our network in much better shape for all those who use it. 

“There will be some delays to road users and inconvenience to those who live locally, for which we apologise in advance.” 

To make work more efficient the jobs have been grouped together, so that all those in an area are carried out around the same time, however, the latest works detailed to start in mid-July 2022 will cover six roads in the north west and north east of the county only.
