Dozens of flats have been approved on an “eyesore” derelict site which has been vacant for more than 15 years – but none will be “affordable”. At an Erewash Borough Council meeting this month (Wednesday, June 10th), councillors approved plans for a four-storey block of 53 retirement apartments on vacant land next to Lidl and the Erewash Canal in Station Road, Sandiacre. A joint police and fire investigation into a derelict building fire on Heanor Road in Ilkeston has concluded the most probable cause to be deliberate. Erewash MP issues statement following Ilkeston bank branch closure announcement

Erewash MP, Adam Thompson has expressed significant disappointed at Lloyds Bank’s decision to close its Ilkeston branch on November 5th 2026. This is just the latest in a string of commercial banks abandoning our high streets. One in five people still rely on in-person banking, disproportionately including the elderly and disabled. The closure would also leave a large and prominent building on Bath Street empty, without an obvious future. Adam has requested an urgent meeting with Lloyds Bank to discuss […]
