Erewash Borough Council is developing a new Local Plan for the use of land across the borough.
The plan will set out how homes, jobs, services and infrastructure will be delivered in the borough to address current and future needs.
As part of this process, the council is being asked to approve a public consultation on the next stage of the Local Plan. The council will be seeking views on its draft vision, objectives, list of planning policies, and the evidence on which they will be based.
The vision includes the commitment to deliver the growth needed to enhance and regenerate our towns and villages to provide good homes, good jobs, and a good standard of living for local people.
The objectives echo that ambition, with aspirations that 1,500 of the 6,800 new homes required by law will be forfamilies on the housing waiting list, and for every new home to be matched by a new job created in the local economy.
Residents and businesses will be invited to comment on these proposals and contribute their own ideas on how the Borough should change over the next 13 years, to 2040. Information on the new Local Plan and its timeline are available on the Erewash Borough Council website.
Councillor Curtis Howard, Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning at Erewash Borough Council said: “It has always been our goal to deliver good quality homes for local people and their families. We want to hear your voice so we can best meet your needs in this vision. Your ideas about topics like infrastructure, affordability, and the future of our greenbelt are key to creating a good standard of living in our borough – no one understands life in Erewash better than its residents.”
The consultation is proposed to run on the council’s website from 10th November until 22nd December 2026. Printed copies of the consultation will be available at Long Eaton Town Hall, Ilkeston Town Hall and local libraries.
Anyone requiring the document in an alternative format can get in touch at planningpolicy @ erewash.gov.uk
The final consultation stage, which will include the actual sites proposed to meet local needs, is currently scheduled for May 2028.
