Ceremonial start to for new Scout build project in Sawley

The dawn of a new era for scouting in Sawley and Long Eaton is to be marked with a groundbreaking ceremony in February.

The 1st Sawley Scout group will start the foundations as part of phase 1 of a new build project, with a ceremony to be held on Wednesday 11th February 2026, with support from the contractor Baldwin Construction.

The first of four phases, phase 2 will be to raise money to buy the land from Erewash Borough Council, whilst phase 3 is set mark the build of a new Community Hub, and phase 4 will lead to the fit out.

Philip Jackson is the spokesperson for Erewash Scouts. He said the scheduled ground breaking ceremony would be held weather-permitting and hoped that the community would join in to help celebrate the occasion and raise awareness of the project.

The 1st Sawley Scouts are currently based at a Scout Hut on Beresford Road in Long Eaton.
