Advice event for landlords as renters get new rights (24th March)

People who rent out local properties to tenants are being invited by Erewash council to a free event next month – so they can get to grips with new legislation that is coming in on 1st May.

The Landlords and Agents Forum 2026 is being staged on Tuesday 24th March ahead of key reforms that will take effect as part of the Renters’ Rights Act.

These include an end to no fault evictions, banning rental bidding wars and giving tenants more freedom to have pets.

Councillor Curtis Howard, who is Erewash’s Lead Member for Town Centres, Regeneration and Planning, said: “The [borough] council has a duty to ensure that tenants in privately rented homes are treated fairly and have decent places to live. We know that most landlords in the borough want to do the right thing by complying with the law.

“The new Renters’ Rights Act is something they need to be fully up to speed with. This event is an ideal opportunity for them to learn all about it so they can be well prepared for the upcoming changes – as the borough council sets about hiring a new team to monitor the private rental sector.”

Erewash Borough Council has teamed up with Amber Valley and Derbyshire Dales councils to host the forum in partnership with two industry bodies for landlords – EMPO (East Midlands Property Owners) and DASH, which stands for Decent And Safe Homes.

Also on the agenda will be Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) – a requirement for properties to meet EPC ratings.

The venue for landlords to get invaluable advice is Morley Hayes, where the forum will take place in the hotel’s Pavilion Suite from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
