Fun will be the order of the day during the summer holidays at a church in Long Eaton.
The ‘It’s About Me’ holiday activity sessions will also include free meals for children eligible for free school dinners.
One school holiday initiative that Erewash Borough Council is backing this summer provides free weekly lunches for families. It is run by Trinity Methodist Church at its church hall on Long Eaton’s Cross Street – where adults and accompanied children can eat in or grab a freebie takeaway picnic at the popular Crossways Coffee Shop on Thursdays between 11am and 1pm.
Councillor Becca Everett, Lead Member for Community Engagement said: “Running these popular holiday clubs each year is something we’re proud of at the council. We’re glad that families in our community find these sessions beneficial, and it’s wonderful to know that children have a place to enjoy a free healthy lunch and have fun with activities that support their wellbeing over the break. Trinity Methodist Church’s free weekly lunches are an incredible initiative as well, and we’re delighted to support the project.”
The “Picnic Packed Lunches” scheme successfully applied for a £1,500 council Fast Funding community grant. It starts on 30th July and continues every Thursday until 3rd September.
